Bob deserved better on ‘Stranger Things’

Warning: This post contains spoilers from Stranger Things 2.

Well, it has been more than a week since Stranger Things 2 was released on Netflix, and it’s time to address the major death.

Yes, I’m talking about Bob Newby (Sean Astin).

Bob was destined to die. All of his character traits pointed to the fate he was dealt. He was a nice guy and the sanest of the bunch. But his trust in Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) never wavered, even when it sounded like she was insane.

And in the end, Bob saved the day. He was the only one who knew how to operate the computer system, thus giving him major purpose on the show.

In the beginning, Bob seemed out of place in the show. He was almost on the same level as Mike’s oblivious parents. But he finally became useful when deciphering the map Will drew from his mind.

Bob’s significance goes deeper than his character though. The actor who plays him is famous for his role on the 1985 film The Goonies. The film is about friendship and adventure.

The most iconic line in the movie is “Goonies never say die.”

Now, isn’t that poetic. Goonies never say die, and Bob died. It was an amazing nod to ‘80s cinema and a beautiful moment in the show.

Bob was the hero we never knew we needed.
