The biggest moments and awards given at The Game Awards 2017

2017 was a great year for games, and The Game Awards didn’t shy away from that. From big reveals and to rewards well deserved by developers across the globe, The Game Awards didn’t disappoint. Starting of the showcase were announcements of VR games spanning from Vacation Simulator (the sequel to Job Simulator) to Accounting Plus, developed by Squanch Games and crows Crows Crows. Vacation Simulator is scheduled to release sometime in 2018. Accounting Plus is scheduled to come out Dec. 19 this year. It’s from the creators of Rick and Morty, so it’s safe to say laughs will be abundant. Ending VR on a high note, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard developed by Capcom, won the award for best VR/AR game.

Many world premieres were announced during the show to keep things interesting. One of the heavy hitters was the announcement, more like teaser, of what From Software’s next project is. From the looks of the trailer, fans are speculating it might be Bloodborne 2. The only information from the trailer was white text reading “Shadows Die Twice.” Hopefully more will be revealed at Playstation Experience this weekend.

Nintendo announced the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Champions’ Ballad which is came out Thursday. With brand new dungeons, new shrines and different costumes to try on, fans will have plenty to play. Nintendo also announced Bayonetta 1 and 2 for the Switch which is set to release Feb. 16, 2018. Then, a reveal trailer showed that Bayonetta 3 is real and is in development exclusively for the Switch.

Reveals for Playstation were few, but impactful. Death Stranding, developed by Kojima Production, showed a brand new trailer which confused players even more. No one knows what Death Stranding is besides that Norman Reedus is in it. Don’t expect this game until 2020 or 2021 at the latest. Dreams developed by Media Molecule, was reawakened with a new trailer. The trailer showed a story mode being introduced along with a creative mode for players to make their own maps similar to Little Big Planet. This was quite the surprise since the game hasn’t been shown in more than two years. On the award side, Playstation’s Hellblade Setsuna Sacrifice won two awards for Game with Impact and Best Performance.

On the indie spectrum, Cuphead won Best Debut Indie Game and Best Art Direction.

Ending the show as always, the Game of the Year was announced. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home the award, along with Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game. Safe to say this was a take home year for Nintendo taking home six awards and several announcements. More than that, it was a fantastic year for games and 2018 only looks better.
