Say goodbye to 'Harry Potter' Weekends on Freeform

Freeform said “Avada Kedavra” to its Harry Potter Weekends after a licensing transfer.

NBCUniversal announced NBC channels, such as USA and Syfy, will have rights to the films, as well as HBO. Disney previously had rights to the popular franchise, which is why they were able to show them on Freeform. The deal goes into effect at the start of 2018.

The news is saddening. Harry Potter was a staple of Freeform since its ABC Family days.

That means there will be no curling up on the couch, turning on the TV, flipping through the channels and seeing Harry’s famous scar appear on screen. We won’t see Ron or Hermione flirt in their subtle ways. And we won’t see the bravery of characters like Neville Longbottom and Severus Snape.

But for those with HBO subscriptions, you can watch the films any time you want because the series will be available on its streaming platform.

Now if anyone needs me, I’ll be at the Three Broomsticks crying into a cup of Butterbeer.
