Fun News Friday: Squirrel becomes student Senate president; ducks fly violate the speed limit

You made it through the entire semester! Now, the only thing between you and the summer is finals week. Here is some fun news to get you ready for the week:

UC Berkeley’s new student president is a squirrel

UC Berkeley student Senate will be going nuts over “safe spaces for squirrels, better access to acorns and support groups for those experiencing habitat loss,” according to the Los Angeles Times

Furry Boi, the squirrel that ran for Student Senate and won, campaigned in a squirrel suit and everyone loved him.

"omg i love him he's so cute," Iris Melody Xu, a UC Berkeley student, wrote on Furry Boi's Facebook page. "Finally, a candidate I can get behind," someone else wrote.

Virginia man gets stuck in tree after rescuing a cat

A man in Virginia got stuck in a tree while trying to rescue a cat, according to the Associated Press

He went about 50 feet up the tree before he got stuck, and firefighters took about 30 minutes to get him back to safety. They also rescued the cat.

Speedy ducks are getting busted

A speed camera in Switzerland got a photo of a duck twice in three days, Swiss police said. The camera found the duck flying 13.5 miles per hour over the speed limit for cars.

"The duck was traveling in a low-altitude flight at 52 kilometers per hour in a 30-kilometer zone," local police said in a statement, according to DW.com

Three days later, a duck was flying through at a similar speed.

“The duck or ducks were lucky to escape a hefty bill,” DW.com reported. “Exceeding the speed limit by 22 kilometers per hour in a built-up area in Switzerland can result in an official police complaint, a fine and a minimum one-month driving ban.”
