The Wrap: Shooter opens fire at YouTube HQ; Villanova defeats Michigan to capture second national title in 3 years

The gun control debate reignited after a shooter opened fire at YouTube’s Silicon Valley campus. Meanwhile, the caravan of migrants heading toward the U.S. disbanded, and the NCAA crowned a new men’s basketball national champion. Here’s more information on the week’s top headlines.

YouTube shooter injures three employees

Three YouTube employees were injured after a shooting at the company’s headquarters in Northern California on Tuesday.

Authorities identified the shooter as Nasim Aghdam, a former user of the site who became angry with YouTube’s practice and policies. She entered YouTube’s Silicon Valley campus and opened fire before taking her own life.

"We know she was upset with YouTube, and now we've determined that was the motive," San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini said.

YouTube announced Wednesday that the company would beef up security in all its office buildings.

Villanova wins NCAA Championship behind DiVincenzo’s outstanding performance

The No. 1 seed Wildcats defeated the No. 3 seed Michigan Wolverines 79-62 in the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship on Monday to claim their second national title in three years.

With everything on the line, Villanova guard Donte DiVincenzo played the game of his life, scoring 31 points off the bench and draining five 3-pointers in the process.

"Honestly, I didn't look at the score at all," DiVincenzo said. "I didn't know how many points I had. I didn't know any of that. I was just trying to make the right play.

The title victory capped Villanova’s stellar tournament run. They became the fourth team since 2000 to win all of the NCAA tournament games by double digits. Villanova coach Jay Wright also joined Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and North Carolina coach Roy Williams as the only active NCAA men’s basketball coaches with multiple national titles.

Caravan of migrants disbanded, Trump acknowledges Mexico’s cooperation

The large caravan of Central American migrants marching through Mexico toward the U.S. has been dispersed.

President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday that the Mexican government had cooperated with disbanding the caravan.

Earlier this week, Trump threatened to withdraw foreign aid to Honduras, where the caravan is believed to have started. He also ordered National Guard troops to patrol the southern border in preparation for the caravan’s arrival.
