TV Review: ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ reveals who died at the wedding in its mid-season finale

In typical fashion, How to Get Away with Murder has teased fans all season about who died at the wedding. On Thursday, the wait ended as showrunners finally uncovered who died at the wedding and, also, the secrets of Gabriel’s past.

The episode centered around Connor (Jack Falahee) and Oliver (Conrad Ricamora)’s wedding, which of course viewers knew to be the murder scene. Annalise (Viola Davis) was hesitant to go to the wedding as she started to drink again, but Connor was able to convince her of the importance of going.

Once at the wedding, things started to escalate. Nate (Billie Brown) discovered the person who had his father killed called from a payphone. Later, he was able to find a picture of the DA, Bonnie (Liza Weil)’s boyfriend, making the call. The DA confronted Bonnie about Annalise’s negative impact on her, which resulted in the pair fighting before the wedding. In a confrontation, Nate became enraged at the DA, who said he never made the call and insisted he was innocent.

Nate ended up beating the DA up pretty badly, but was able to stop until Bonnie came outside. There, Nate told her the DA had killed his father. Bonnie was still angry about their earlier fight and with this new information, she had enough. Thus, it was revealed that the DA was the one who died at the wedding after Bonnie strangled him to death. The reveal was surprising; however, viewers may find the evidence to be a bit weak as they killed him over one picture of him at a payphone.

The truly shocking moment came when Frank (Charlie Weber) revealed Gabriel(Rome Flynn)’s secret to Annalise. The moment had been shown before, but Frank’s words had always been omitted. In this episode, Frank told Annalise that Gabriel was Sam’s son. The twist is stunning, as Gabriel will likely want some sort of revenge against the Keating Four — which was five at the time of his death — for killing his father. Also, now that Annalise knows the truth, everyone will face an uncertain, dangerous road ahead as they deal with the stunning reveal.

Here’s how fans reacted to the shocking episode:
