Ohio defeated Campbell 81-73 on Monday in The Convo behind 24 points from Jason Carter and a stout defensive performance on one of the nation’s premier scorers, Chris Clemons.
Here are fast reactions from the game:
Second half run
With 12:50 remaining in the game, Gavin Block nailed a 3-pointer to give Ohio a three-point lead. It was Ohio’s first lead in the game, and the Bobcats didn’t give it up after. They never led by more than eight, but they gave themselves cushion throughout the rest of the game.
Keeping it close in the first half was one thing, but having the run in the second half allowed the Bobcats to secure a home win.
BVP for 3
In the closing stages of the first half, Ohio needed a spurt. Redshirt freshman Ben Vander Plas supplied the scoring.
Vander Plas hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Campbell lead to four. Later in the first half, Ohio was down nine, but Vander Plas hit consecutive 3s again to will Ohio back and trim the Campbell lead to three. It was what Ohio needed to stay in the game early.
Vander Plas finished with 14 points.
Closing argument
