Pantone has announced the 2019 Color of the Year

Pantone announced Wednesday that the 2019 Color of the Year is “Living Coral.”

Every December for the last 20 years, Pantone has had the honor of picking a special color for that given year, according to Time. The company takes fashion, design, cultural trends and more into account when choosing the color.

The 2019 color is PANTONE 16-1546, known as Living Coral, which is a shade of orange, with a golden undertone. Pantone said that this color symbolizes an “innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits” and “authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy.”

The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year was PANTONE 18-3838, known as Ultra Violet, which is a bright purple hue.

This year, technology and social media continued to grow and be a significant figure within our lives. Pantone thought it was appropriate to look at nature for inspiration of this years color, according to CNN.

The color gives a nod toward coral reefs, which are a source of shelter to many sea creatures, according to Forbes. The color is meant to show warmth and provide comfort with the continually shifting environment due to new technology evolving everyday.
