City Council: Members to vote to extend pilot compost project

Athens City Council will look to pass an ordinance that will extend the pilot residential curbside compost project at Monday’s meeting.

The ordinance would extend the project through June 30. The compost pilot program ran for six months and ended on Dec. 30, 2018. Athens-Hocking Recycling, or AHR, is now asking the city for an extension of the contract. The extension would help AHR better gather data on the effectiveness of composting in the city.

Two ordinances being voted on are for the Bounty on the Bricks fundraiser on Aug. 3. One ordinance would close a portion of Court Street for the day and the other would allow vending in the designated area for the event.

There will also be two ordinances also introduced to City Council at the meeting.

The first ordinance would allow certain streets in uptown Athens to be closed on June 21 and 22 for the Brick Criterium.

The other ordinance would amend Athens City Code Title 17 on municipal income tax so it would include sections 718.80 through 718.95 of the Ohio Revised Code.
