OU student arrested for drug trafficking

The Athens County Major Crimes Unit (MCU) arrested an Ohio University student Thursday for drug trafficking.

Tanner Dew, 20, of Johnstown, sold lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) to a confidential informant in two cases documented by MCU.

In both cases, the amount of LSD sold was under the bulk amount set by the Ohio Revised Code. Each of these offenses are fourth degree felonies due to the incident occurring in a school zone.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Dew’s dorm room located at Bromley Hall, 35 S. Congress St. Upon entering, authorities found additional evidence of drug trafficking, including suspected cocaine, THC resin (dabs), MDMA (molly) and about $300 in cash.

The unit doses of MDMA recovered were over five times the bulk amount set by the Ohio Revised Code. This offense is a first degree felony because it occurred in a school zone.

The investigation indicates the drugs were likely to be sold at the upcoming “Mill Fest” event in Athens, according to the news release.

The investigation is ongoing and was assisted by both the Ohio University Police Department and the Athens Police Departments.
