TV Review: Derek sends himself home on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’

Bachelor in Paradise stops for no one, rose lovers. Even on Labor Day.

Monday night’s episode picked back up with a not-so-expected arrival of an ex stepping down on the beach. Of course, it’s Angela. She sparked tension and confusion between Nicole and Clay, who are in a committed relationship. After Nicole let’s Angela know the two are “boyfriend and girlfriend,” she claims she’s “not a drama person.” But clearly, the girl has ulterior motives and is trying to make Clay jealous.

Then it’s time for the John Paul Jones show. Haley is livid when she finds out he still had strong feelings for Tayshia, who is starting to become closer to Derek.

So long love triangles! The love-rectangle has slowly but surely been taking the triangle’s place. Anyway, JPJ describes Derek as “a fraternity brother, who is in this to take advantage of women.” He’s super out of line and Haley ends up calling him out for it.

The next day, Tayshia finally intervenes between the two and states that she couldn’t be with either of them. Derek is obviously heartbroken. “If there's any feelings I'm feeling, it’s self-loathing and sadness.”

It was tearful to watch the fan-favorite leave, but he avoided future JPJ drama… and may have even solidified his role as the next Bachelor. We can only hope.
