Men’s Golf: Ohio finishes 9th at the Phoenix Intercollegiate

Ohio had its best performance of the season so far and finished in ninth place out of 16 teams during the two-day Phoenix Intercollegiate tournament at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, North Carolina.

The Bobcats finished with a team score of 854 (+2), their best team score of the season, and placed one stroke behind Towson.

Ohio started the tournament with two rounds on Monday and finished the first round with a strong score of 281 (-3). Rounds two and three were solid, too, and the Bobcats turned in scores of 285 (+1) in the second round and 288 (+4) in the final round, which was played Tuesday.

Gardner-Webb won the tournament with a total team score of 833 (-19), finishing a mere one stroke of second-place Morehead State, who finished with a total team score of 834 (-18).

Junior Austin Dyson was Ohio’s best golfer and finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with a total score of 206 (-7). Dyson started with a huge first round and shot a 65 (-6). He slowed down a bit after that with round scores of 71 (E) and 70 (-1), but still finished with one of the Bobcats’ best performances of the season.

The Bobcats will look to build on their best performance of the season with their final tournament of the fall season at the Grandover Collegiate at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Oct. 28-29.
