Cross Country: Bobcats looking forward to MAC Championships

One of the biggest days of the year for Ohio is coming this Saturday.

The Bobcats are getting ramped up for their most important test yet this season as it will travel to DeKalb, Illinois, to run in the Mid-American Conference Championships.

Both the men’s and women's teams look to build on solid outings last weekend in Terre Haute, Indiana, where they took home second and 12th place, respectively, at Pre-Nationals.

Last year at the conference championships, the men’s team finished fifth out of nine teams and the women finished ninth out of 12 teams. The Bobcats are aiming for a higher finish to conclude this season.

A bright spot during the race last year was for junior Josh Park, who finished in first place at the MAC Championships and will look to defend his title. Last week, Park finished second overall at Pre-Nationals and received MAC Male Athlete of the Week honors and should help the Bobcats’ team rankings Saturday.

For the women’s team, redshirt senior Madison Sury has been one of the best runners for the Bobcats this season, and she wants to see the team race at a high level this weekend.

“This year is probably the most even field we have had, at least in my last four years,” Sury said. “There are those two to three teams who are really strong and probably will take those top spots, but other than those two or three spots it will probably be all open from there.”

The men’s team will be racing at 12 p.m. and the women’s team will be racing at 1 p.m. Saturday.
