TV Review: The humans get the results of their afterlife test on ‘The Good Place’

With only two more episodes left of The Good Place, it’s not surprising that things are wrapping up nicely for the four humans. However, this week’s episode ended so pleasantly that it almost seems too good to be true.

Last week’s episode ended with the humans, Michael (Ted Danson) and Janet (D’Arcy Carden) convincing the Judge (Maya Rudolph) and Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) to reinvent the bad place and good place systems, giving everyone a better and more fair chance at an afterlife.

This week, Michael is working with Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Janet to train the bad place architects to create the tests for humans. However, Michael encounters one of his enemies, Vicky (Tiya Sircar), and she tells him she wants to be involved in creating the tests.

Michael gives Vicky a test run creating an afterlife test for Tahani, and she aces it. Michael becomes severely threatened by how good Vicky is at teaching the other demons how to properly create the test, so he forces her to leave.

After talking it over with Janet and Tahani, Michael realizes he needs to let Vicky take over teaching the other demons and he needs to take a step back. He decides to let Vicky run the whole show, while he just delegates from behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Eleanor (Kristen Bell) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) are working to go through old files of people to determine who will be sent to the good place, and Jason pulls all of their own files just to read them for fun.

Eleanor becomes really insecure that Chidi won’t love her after reading her file, so she tells him that he has to read it now before they start their eternity together.

Chidi reads it and, ironically, ends up feeling like he isn’t good enough for Eleanor. He admires how strong she is and begins to feel ridiculously self-conscious. It’s Jason who reinstates Chidi’s confidence by using reverse psychology, and everyone ends up happy.

The episode ends by skipping 1.28 Jeremy Bearimys into the future, where architects have completed the tests and have just admitted the first person into the good place. The four humans are excited to figure out who was admitted, as they were instrumental in creating the plan, and Michael informs them that they are the first four people to be admitted into the good place.

“The judge agreed that the four of you don’t need to take the test,” Michael said. “Turns out that saving every soul in the universe is worth a few points. You’re in.”

With that, the four humans and Michael climb into a hot air balloon to head to the good place to spend eternity.

This episode is extremely exciting, as audiences have waited four seasons for the core four to make it to the good place. However, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not any more issues arise for the group within the last two episodes.

Here’s how audiences reacted on Twitter:
