Uptown Grill recently came under new ownership and will reopen with the name Grub-n-Go on West Union in Athens, Ohio.

Uptown Grill changes ownership, name to Grub-n-Go

Uptown Grill, 11 W. Union St., is changing to Grub-n-Go under new ownership.

It will be run by Athens local Todd Thompson under its new name.

Thompson is keeping most of Uptown Grill’s menu intact, but one change to the menu is the removal of the chicken and waffle sandwich.

Instead, Thompson will add a new breakfast menu and different hours of operation.

“(I’m) keeping the same menu but dropping chicken and waffles,” Thompson said. “(I’m) adding a breakfast menu that’ll have fresh hash browns.”

The breakfast menu will also include breakfast burritos. While new items are being added, there will still be familiar items, like the Philly cheese steak.

Thompson plans on opening the restaurant around 6:30 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and being open from 10:00 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Thompson had hopes of opening his own food truck someday, but when he saw Uptown Grill for sale, he couldn’t resist buying the lease and equipment for the right price.

Now, with the spot in his name, Thompson hopes to open June 1. He thinks, however, the opening date will be later due to the health department inspection.

“I know I’m taking a huge risk,” Thompson said.

Even with the coronavirus pandemic and change in menu, Thompson hopes Athens locals will stop by Grub-n-Go.

“All they have to do is give us a try,” he said. “The breakfast menu is huge.”
