Here are 4 perfect DIY gifts for your mom this Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a time for showing your mother appreciation for all she does for you. Making breakfast for your mom, taking her to get ice cream or getting her a card can all be great gestures, but making a homemade gift for your mom can be the most memorable part of her special day. If you’re looking to do something special for your mom for Mother’s Day but are running low on ideas, look no further. These four DIY gifts are cheap, creative and come right from the heart. Here are a few ideas to get you started this Mother’s Day:

Paper flower bouquet

Getting your mom flowers can be quite a lovely gesture, but making her some paper flowers will last forever and show her you spent some time working on it specifically for her. First, pick what “flowers” you want in your bouquet, then find some regular paper, newspaper, construction paper, coffee filters, egg cartons, felt or whatever base you want to use to design your flower. You could even use white paper and color the flowers to be a specific design.

Pipe cleaners make for good stems, or you could use pencils. Anything with a straight-looking sturdiness to them will make for a good base. You could also create a bouquet with no stems and just the tops of the flowers peeking through.

A way to connect all the flowers is through either a real vase in your house that’s filled with newspaper or something else to simulate the water in a vase, or just take a newspaper and fashion it into a triangle hold.

Handmade cards

Handmade cards are so much more special than store-bought cards. If you are looking to make a lasting memory for your mom this Mother’s Day, a handmade card is the way to go. There’s a lot of creative freedom that comes with making a card because it could be something artistic, complete with a drawing or painting; it could be a fun shape, like two hands holding a heart in the middle; or it could be a collage of printed photos of you and your mom to showcase a lot of fun memories. Whatever format you choose, the card should include a heartfelt, personalized message to let your mom know just how much she means to you.

Jar full of reasons you love her

Though this one takes a little more thought, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. Find any sort of jar or container in your house, think of a lot of reasons why you love your mom, write them down on little slips of paper and then stuff them in the jar. You can decorate the jar however you want or gift it how it is, but either way, she will be sure to adore this incredibly thoughtful gift.

Drawing or painting of you and your mom

It seems like a really simple idea, but drawing, painting or digitally illustrating a picture of you and your mom can be a really thoughtful gift. You can try to paint it with an emphasis on accuracy, or you can make it abstract. If you’re going for accuracy, you can print a photo of you and your mom and trace it by using light and putting another piece of paper on top. If you want to make it extra special, you could also get it framed. Either way, she’s sure to treasure the picture for years to come.
