Good morning,
LeBron James, NBA star of the Los Angeles Lakers, agreed to a two-year extension with the team on Wednesday, per his agent Rich Paul. The extension is worth $85 million.
Under the extension, James will be with the Lakers through the 2022-23 season, when he will be 39 and completing his 20th season in the NBA. By the end of the extension, he will have earned nearly $435 million from career NBA contracts.
James was named the 2020 NBA Finals MVP in October after he and the Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 4-2 in the Orlando bubble. James earned his fourth championship ring and fourth Finals MVP award. He became the first player in NBA history to win the Finals MVP award with three different franchises after he also did so with the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers.
When the extension ends in 2023, LeBron’s oldest son, 16-year-old Bronny, is expected to graduate high school.
