Faculty Senate: OU President Hugh Sherman discusses hazing training for organization faculty advisers

Ohio University Faculty Senate met Monday evening to discuss updates and upcoming resolutions.

In its first meeting of Fall Semester, Senate read two new resolutions for a first reading. The first resolution pertains to making changes in the faculty handbook to allow for online meetings and voting within the online meetings, and the second resolution, from faculty senator John O’Keefe, pertains to allowing for faculty to have more say in decision-making for positions such as deans, the provost and the chief financial officer at OU.

OU President Hugh Sherman updated faculty about Collin’s Law, anti-hazing legislation which was signed by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine July 6. Sherman reminded faculty they are to undergo training on hazing awareness and prevention if they are the faculty adviser for an organization at OU. Sherman also informed the group that bystanders must report any hazing activity they see, or they could face penalties up to a first degree misdemeanor.

Finance and Facilities Chair Doug Clowe discussed a list of deferred maintenance projects in the works, including mechanical updates for The Convo, renovation for Stocker Center on West Green and a completion of Clippinger Center at the start of fiscal year 25.
