Men's Basketball: Mark Sears enters transfer portal

Ohio will be without another starter next season. Mark Sears, Ohio's scoring leader, has decided to enter the transfer portal.

Sears' decision was made public in a Tweet published by Scott Whittle on Wednesday evening. The guard, in just his sophomore year, led the Bobcats in points and assists per game. He garnered All-Mid-American Conference First Team honors this season and was announced as a finalist for the 2022 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award on Monday.

The sophomore started in every game for the Bobcats this season and averaged over 35 minutes per game. Sears assumed the role of Ohio's offensive commander, and he scored in double figures in all but two games this year.

Sears is the third Bobcat in the past week to enter the transfer portal. Fellow starter Ben Vander Plas' entry into the portal was announced Monday, and forward Colin Granger entered the portal on March 24. The Bobcats have plenty of holes in their roster to fill before their next season begins.
