Baseball: What to know for Ohio vs. Eastern Michigan

Ohio will jump back into its Mid-American Conference schedule when it travels to take on Eastern Michigan this weekend.

Eastern Michigan is currently on a three-game win streak after notching three wins in a four-game series against Miami. Ohio has only won two of its last five games after splitting its series with Toledo last weekend.

The Bobcats earned their first conference series sweep against the Eagles last season, and they won three of those four games by a single run. However, the Bobcats were playing on their home turf for that series. Now, they’ll have to pull up their bootstraps to do the same on the road.

Here’s what to know:

Series information

Ohio holds a slight upper hand in the series. Since 1999, Ohio is 28-27 against Eastern Michigan.

The Eagles are currently on their longest losing streak in that span. They’ve lost their last eight games to the Bobcats and are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings.

There is a history of extra innings in the series as well. Ohio and Eastern Michigan went into extra innings twice last season and have done so seven times since 1999. Both Ohio and Eastern Michigan have only had one game reach extra innings this season.

Player to watch

Daniel Warkentin — The senior has had a hit in his last six games. During game two of Eastern Michigan’s doubleheader against Miami, Warkentin had four hits in four at bats. Warkentin also had three RBIs in that game.
