Artist Spotlight: Mimoza is the hidden face promoting women’s empowerment

You may have never heard of Mimoza, but she’s a powerhouse singer-songwriter that many would recognize after realizing her impressive contributions to current pop music. Amidst a busy songwriting schedule, the Los Angeles native is dedicated to her craft, recently releasing a new single last week.

Under a captivating stage name, Mimoza began her career in 2017, releasing the collaboration, “Dreamer” with Thomas Gold. A techno-pop song, the single was her first entryway into the pop scene, integrating elements of EDM into her craft.

In the same year, she dropped two more singles, one called “Anyway” with Tyron Hapi, and “Big Girls Cry,” which helped solidify her place as a songwriter, this time experimenting again with electronic-pop synths and production to sing about heartbreak and vulnerability.

A year later, Mimoza unveiled another single, “Love For Days,” a much different sound than her previous singles. Erasing the EDM-inspired tracks of her past, the singer brought in sounds of tambourines and guitars, all dedicated to the people she loves.

After constantly creating for two years straight, Mimoza took a three year break to work on other projects outside her own. One of her most successful projects became Ava Max’s “Kings & Queens,” which went platinum in 12 countries and reached No.1 on the U.S. Airplay Charts.

Her songwriting won various awards in that year, including the 2021 ASCAP Pop Music Award Winner, as well as received over 650 million streams to date.

While success was now a prominent force in her life, Mimoza was eager to make music on her own again, inspired by her days writing songs at 17 years old. Thus, came “Young Queen,” a song to her younger self, acknowledging her self-worth and accomplishments.

According to her website, “Young Queen” also served as “a love letter to her home country, and her Albanian roots. Paying tribute to her mother and all moms who raise their daughters to see themselves as ‘young queens.’”

Now, as 2022 steadily moves along, the singer-songwriter has proven she is ready to find even more success in her solo projects. Mimoza first dropped “Unprotected,” another track about letting go of one’s anxiety about starting a new relationship and letting your feelings take full reign.

Following “Unprotected,” the singer-songwriter just released a new song, “Madly” on Sept. 9. The song revealed a lot of emotions from Mimoza, such as pain, heart and strength. It explores self-love, knowing your worth and never settling for less.

In regards to the music video for the song, Mimoza said, “My concept for the video was 'modern romance.' I think we often romanticize how beautiful life would be if that one person fell in love with us but what if we romanticized falling in love with ourselves first?”

Obviously, Mimoza creates music for the masses, especially for a young female audience, but also creates on her own terms, challenging herself to write about new perspectives and experiences that women go through.

All in all, Mimoza is a confident, level-headed creator in the music industry, and one to watch during a time where women’s rights and empowerment are what is currently being thought of around the world.
