Field Hockey: Ohio takes on Ball State in MAC opener

Ohio (2-2,0-0 Mid-American Conference) returns to Pruitt Field this Friday against Ball State to open up its MAC slate. Here’s what you need to know heading into the matchup.

Match Information:

Opponent: Ball State (1-4 Overall, 0-0 MAC)

Location: Pruitt Field

Time and Date: Sept. 15, 3 p.m.

Ball State has struggled to start the season but is looking to build momentum coming off a 2-1 victory at Lock Haven University to notch their first win. The Cardinals will also be running into a Bobcats team aiming to keep its winning streak. Ohio’s previous game was a 3-2 comeback win in overtime against Indiana.

Head coach Caitlin Walsh will be leading the Cardinals into battle on Friday. In her first year as head coach in 2022, Walsh led the Cardinals to their first MAC tournament appearance since 2019. Conference play starts with this game for both teams, making Friday’s matchup key for the end goal of making the MAC tournament.

Players to Watch:

Ohio’s goalkeeper Macy Lotze has been incredible for the Bobcats to start the season. She is coming off a 14-save performance against Indiana that earned her the MAC Defensive Player of the Week. The Cardinals senior forward Rachel Bohn will be a player Ohio’s defense has to focus on. In Ball State’s last game, Bohn scored both goals for the Cardinals including the game-winning goal in the shootout against Lock Haven.

Both squads will aim to come out of Friday’s game with a 1-0 record in MAC play.
