Fresh Finds Friday: Music from DESTIN CONRAD, Black Pumas

Happy Friday! It’s time to listen to some new tunes. Just this past week, we have new music from X Ambassadors, Black Pumas and Duran Duran.

While everyone has their favorite genre of music, we've made a series of songs that will appeal to any mood or preference. Below are new songs or albums from the past week that are perfect for any occasion.

Here are five new songs you should check out:

“SUBMISSIVE” by DESTIN CONRAD

Nine tracks explain DESTIN CONRAD’S “SUBMISSIVE.” Regarding the album, Conrad said in an interview with Rated R&B, “Submissive usually has a sexual connotation, but I’m coming from more of a submitting to non-physical things, submitting to change, submitting to not knowing.”

The nine tracks on the album use diverse methods to tell the story, ranging from drum breaks on “LOW TIDE” and “TANTRUM!” to bongos on “MARIPOSA” and a reggae vibe on “LUV N DEVOTION,” on which Conrad shows his Jamaican roots.

Ice Cream (Pay Phone)” by Black Pumas

Drum breaks and a fuzzy guitar partly define “Ice Cream (PayPhone),” which acted as a final teaser for the now-released album, “Chronicles of a Diamond.” The fuzzy, distorted guitar works as a prominent part of the track, opening up for Eric Burton to sing about calling up his lover. In this context, the “ice cream” on his payphone is referred to in the lyrics: "Hey there, little darling, can I call you on my pay phone / My ice cream cake with vanilla on top / Look, you can sit yourself down, pick up with vanilla on top or forever hold your peace, darling.” The song also comes with a music video you can watch here.

“bluetooth" by piri & Tommy Villiers

Talking about her new single, piri said, “'bluetooth' really feels like a new and improved iteration of the original piri & Tommy vibe. It's a dreamy, laid back love song over sunny drum and bass with Brazilian guitars backed by a huge atmosphere built by layers of synths and vocals." Throughout the record, piri sings about trying to connect to someone special and pairing her heart up to a Bluetooth device so she can send someone her love.

“PSYCHO KILLER” by Duran Duran (feat. Victoria De Angelis)

The Halloween vibes are strong thanks to Duran Duran's interpretation of the Talking Heads classic, "Psycho Killer.”ith a New Wave touch, courtesy of the strummed guitar and funky elastic bass lines, “it gathers together an unusual mix of cover versions, reworked Duran Duran songs and several new compositions,” according to a Billboard interview with keyboardist Nick Rhodes. Rhodes said the album "DANSE MACABRE" contains "PSYCHO KILLER" and several other singles such as "Secret Oktober 31st” and "Confessions In The Afterlife."

“Alcohol” by X Ambassadors, BRELAND

X Ambassadors came together with country rap artist BRELAND on their new single “Alcohol.” Vocalist Sam Nelson Harris said, “I wanted to write something that got right to the heart (and humor) of what it feels like when you’re being extra dramatic and desperately need to find a way to drown your sorrows.” Over the course of the song, Harris sings, “So give me all of your alcohol, tequila and lime, whiskey on ice and every one of my problems is solved.” X Ambassadors will be trekking across the U.K. and Europe next year. Tour dates and tickets are available here.
