Fresh Finds Friday: New Tierra Whack album, Matt Champion returns after 7 years

Happy Friday! With the end of the week in sight, it is another week with new music. This past week, we have new music from Tierra Whack and Matt Champion, among others.

Here are five new songs or albums you should check out this week:

"WORLD WIDE WHACK" by Tierra Whack

In 2018, Philadelphia native Tierra Whack released a 15-minute audiovisual project featuring a cartoon version of herself living in a world of her own imagination. On "Whack World," the rapper explores love, grief and outgrowing your surroundings through freestyled lyrics and trippy beats. Whack's new album, "WORLD WIDE WHACK," is a sequel to the first album, tackling the topics of self-harm, suicidal ideation, boundaries and how these internal knotty feelings can affect relationships and daily life.

"Mika's Laundry" by Matt Champion

Former BROCKHAMPTON member Matt Champion recently released his debut album, "Mika's Laundry," his first project since 2017. It features audio chaos similar to sounds heard in BROCKHAMPTON records. Throughout 13 songs, the album explores intimacy, love and the colors of our lives. Themes range from a religious girl on "Aphid (feat. Dijon)" to "Dogfish," and the color Alabama blue on "Green." In a press release, Champion stated, "The whole process of this album was trying to find something without looking for it."

"Pon Pón" by Khruangbin

Houston-based music trio Khruangbin teases its upcoming project with a new single, "Pon Pón." The majority of its length contains summer-like, jazzy guitar work, focusing more on the atmosphere rather than lyrics that switch to a dance floor punch with percussive instrumentation toward the middle. You can expect its new album, "A LA SALA," which promises to tap back into the core values of its soundset, to be released April 5

"True North" by Lily Rose

Atlanta native Lily Rose emerged from the scene with her single "Villain" and has completed tours with country music's hottest stars, such as Sam Hunt and Shania Twain. Now releasing her first batch of music since 2022 with "True North" and "Parking Lot," the first of the two has Rose talking about the memorable things of her childhood: Springsteen, sweet tea, a red letter page and the light on her mama's front porch. The song is an homage to her home down south, which is her "true North." Rose has a forthcoming project, "Runnin' Outta Time," out May 10.

"i like the way you kiss me" by Artemas

Artemas, the rising U.K. artist, returns with his latest record, "i like the way you kiss me." Featuring trance-like synths, atmospheric sounds of bass, grooves and melancholic guitar work, the song talks about the way a lover kisses them without getting attached. It paints the picture of a strained relationship and the uncertainty and disappointment about where the relationship is going, which the artist mentioned in an interview with Ones To Watch.
