President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Saturday night to deliver the news the U.S. sent three strikes to attack Iranian nuclear sites.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home … ” Trump wrote.
Trump addressed the nation shortly after his post from Washington D.C. to attest to U.S. involvement in the strikes. During the address, he stated the attack “completely and fully obliterated” Iran’s main nuclear sites.
“Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace,” Trump said during the address.
The Associated Press stated it is not clear whether the U.S. will continue attacking Iran; however, if Iran decides to retaliate against the U.S., there will be additional strikes sent into Iran, according to Trump.
The Iranian United Nations’ ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani called for an emergency Security Council meeting to discuss the situation. According to the AP, the U.N. must take measures to hold the U.S. accountable under international law.
The decision to send strikes into Iran and a declaration of war was made without congressional approval, a constitutional right that Congress holds.
According to the AP, Trump’s decision to enter the war between Iran and Israel is a “risky moment” since part of his campaign in 2024 was to keep America out of wars.
