Deputies of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a third-party call from Penn Street in Glouster regarding reports of an active dispute.
Once on the scene, deputies determined that the noise was not from a dispute, but rather from people calling for their escaped dog.
No further action was necessary, and deputies returned to patrol.
Oh deer
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent a request for help from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who needed help removing a deer carcass from the road, as their patrol unit was busy elsewhere.
The deputies and State Highway Patrol were able to remove the carcass safely from the road.
Thursday, June 5
Searching for the runaway
Nelsonville Police Department was attempting to locate a runaway, and the Athens County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to assist them at Gun Club Road in Athens.
Deputies checked the home and were unable to locate the runaway; however, they spoke with individuals who provided the runaway’s location.
The information was then passed along to the Nelsonville Police Department, and deputies returned to patrol.
Tampering with boats?
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies spoke with a man on Thursday regarding a criminal damage complaint.
The man told deputies that the loading strap on his boat was cut while parked at his home on Beechwood Drive in Athens.
The deputies took a report, and an investigation was pending as of June 6.
Friday, June 6
In for the long haul
The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office advised the Athens County Sheriff’s Office of a man without a shirt acting like he was under the influence.
It was also advised that the man was walking close to the county line for Vinton County and Athens County, heading toward Athens County.
Deputies patrolled around the area and couldn’t find the man.
Give me back my bike!
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call from The Plains in regards to the theft of a bicycle.
While the deputies patrolled the area, they were unable to contact the described culprit or bike.
Saturday, June 7
Advanced game of hide and seek
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of three individuals dressed in black and carrying backpacks in the area of Baker Road and Factory Road in Albany.
Deputies went to the scene and tried to make contact with the individuals who took off running.
The area was then patrolled by foot using night vision and thermal imaging equipment; however, deputies were unable to locate the individuals due to the weather conditions.
Bust your windows
Deputies of the Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Carr Road in Nelsonville after an object was thrown through a window.
When they arrived, deputies spoke with the person who called on the scene and attempted to find the culprit with no luck.
The deputies on scene took a report, and all charges will be sent to the Athens County Municipal Court.
Sunday, June 8
Thunderstorms, am I right?
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call from Wildman Road in Coolville regarding an open 911 line.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they were told that it was the water from the storm causing issues with the landline.
Deputies were also told that similar issues occur nearly every time there is a storm in the area, and no further action was needed.
Let’s go! Oh wait…
On state Route 56 near Radford Road, a vehicle pursuit was taking place, and the Athens Police Department requested the Athens County Sheriff’s Office to assist.
The pursuit was canceled before deputies from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office could become involved.
Monday, June 9
Compact party
Suspicious activity was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office at storage units in The Plains.
The property manager told deputies she had received phone calls from neighbors telling her a man who owns a unit there was playing music loudly in the early morning hours.
Just taking a test drive
According to a report from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, a complainant was trying to sell his vehicle and suspected the possible buyer had stolen it.
While deputies were talking to the complainant, the possible buyer returned the vehicle. Deputies determined this incident was just a misunderstanding.
Scam Alert
Athens County Sheriff’s Office posted a message stating they have received information about a new scam in which the scammers are contacting the family members of incarcerated people to acquire money.
They are also falsely claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office or the court system and are telling people they can secure the release of loved ones in exchange for money.
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office is adamant that people don’t give the scammers any information and is encouraging people to verify any claims made with official sources.
Tuesday, June 10
Testing negative
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to United Lane in Athens because a report stated a man was possibly under the influence.
Contact was made with the man by deputies, and he voluntarily took a nystagmus test. The test showed no impairment was present.
The man was released, and deputies resumed patrol.
I don’t need your help
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Spices of Life after hearing about a woman there who seemed to be on drugs.
At the scene, deputies spoke with the woman, who told them she did not require any assistance and was not under the influence of any drug. No further action was necessary.
