Keystone’s Mac Shack announced Wednesday it will not reopen its Athens location this fall.
Since opening Jan. 16, 2022, students at Ohio University have had the opportunity to eat at Mac Shack, located at 14 S Court St. That ended Wednesday, when the restaurant announced it will not reopen its Athens location.
In an Instagram post, Mac Shack called the closure a tough decision and said they are “deeply grateful for all the support and excitement from this community.”
The closing of Mac Shack follows the closing of other Athens eateries, such as Firdous Express and Oryza Asian Grill, but also with the upcoming openings of new restaurants like Raising Cane’s and Playa Bowls.
Mac Shack’s Google page was updated the same day to read “temporarily closed,” and the restaurant’s phone number has already been disconnected.
Students and Athens residents shared disappointment in the comments of the announcement post, but for those truly dedicated fans, Mac Shack’s Cincinnati location remains open.
