Police Blotter: Chores stink, that First Amendment right

Wednesday, August 6

What’d you say about my Mama?

At 5:26 p.m., Athens County Sheriff’s deputies responded to West Wilson Road in New Marshfield for a neighborly dispute.

Deputies at the scene were told the dispute happened because someone involved said something about a family member of the other person involved.

All people involved were separated and warned for disorderly conduct.

Ghost driver

A crash occurred at 11:32 p.m. at Radford Road in Athens, and Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to help the Ohio State Highway Patrol with the incident.

To help, deputies patrolled Radford Road and nearby side roads to try to find the driver of the crashed vehicle. No one was found missing the driver’s description.

Thursday, August 7

No information provided

At 3:39 a.m., an alarm was reported to be sounding at Lake Snowden.

The door was found to be open by deputies at the scene. The building was then cleared with no one being found inside, and the door was re-secured shut.

Deputies were unable to obtain any keyholder information from the alarm company or Hocking College.

Being upset doesn’t mean a drug overdose

At Vore Ridge Road, a man was reported to the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, possibly overdosing on drugs at 8:18 p.m.

The man said to deputies he was fine, was not using drugs, was upset with some family members and was trying to distance himself from the situation.

Friday, August 8

Anything is a race track

At 7:07 p.m., the Athens County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a derby car being driven on the road and sent deputies to Depot Street in New Marshfield to investigate it.

Deputies informed the derby car owner the vehicle could not be driven on public roads.

Chores stink

A verbal dispute taking place at Converse Street in Chauncey was filed with the Athens County Sheriff’s Office at 9:11 p.m.

At the scene, deputies spoke to all involved and were told the dispute was occurring over a kid being unruly and refusing to do his chores.

The issue was resolved.

Saturday, August 9

Kids and their rocks

Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to Lake Drive in Trimble at 8:33 p.m. for a report of kids throwing rocks at vehicles.

The area was patrolled by deputies, but no kids were found.

That First Amendment right

At 9:21 p.m., Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies talked to a person over the phone in regards to a harassment complaint.

During the conversation, deputies learned someone else had video-recorded the caller’s conversation in a public area.

Deputies informed the caller the recording was protected by the First Amendment, and no further action could be taken.

Sunday, August 10

Services unrequired

At 12:17 a.m., the Athens County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Port Campground for a hang-up call.

While deputies were on the way, it was determined the call was an accident, and deputies were no longer needed.

Bark, bark

A noise complaint of a dog barking in Trimble Township was received at 12:52 a.m. by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

At the scene, deputies found a dog tied up in the home's backyard that was barking and made contact with their owner to advise them of their complaint.

The owner said the dog would go inside immediately.

Monday, August 11

Figures in the dark

At the Village of Glouster, Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived for a suspicious activity report at 1:26 a.m.

The caller told deputies several people were outside their home. Deputies then searched the area, conducted extra patrols and found no one in the area.

Don’t call if you're wanted

At 12:35 p.m., a complaint from The Plains was received by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office for a man staying in the caller's residence, and the caller wanted the man gone.

At the scene, deputies found the issue to be a civil matter and found the caller had an active warrant.

The caller was arrested and transported with no issues.

Tuesday, August 12

Missing medication

Athens County Sheriff’s Deputies went to Main Street in Chauncey at 4:15 p.m. regarding a report of a theft of a person’s medication.

The caller said a utility worker was earlier at her house hooking up a service, and when the worker left, her medication was missing.

A report was taken, and an investigation is pending at the time of the report being released.

Let it burn

At 7:34 p.m., a burning complaint came from Spring Street in Glouster.

Deputies found at the scene the fire was a small, contained wood fire and was not trash or other debris.
