Gabbing with Grace: Dress up for football games

Let's talk about game day attire. Football season has begun, and with the beginning of the new season, the question every Saturday morning of what to wear arises. Football has, in one way or another, integrated its way into many schools’ traditions and has become a Saturday routine for many.

Ohio University has a huge impact on the town’s culture and atmosphere as it is the center of attention in Athens. Walking around campus daily, you can see the fashion trends our peers are choosing to wear. We tend to gravitate toward athleisure, university apparel and overall comfortable clothing options. Moreover, the majority of OU students choose their outfits based on comfort and the environment, as we experience every season with severe weather changes.

Peering into larger schools’ gamedays, you can see women and men of all ages dressed to the nines. In the stadium, you see women wearing a variety of pieces, including bold colors, school imagery, patterns, accessories, big hats, sunglasses, fun jewelry, pins and more. Everything is big and bold. This speaks loudly to a lot of girls on college campuses.

Nothing beats picking out outfits with your best friends and collaborating all your clothes together to find the best outfit. What makes every girl feel her best? It’s wearing a cute outfit to walk around campus. Let’s bring that attitude to our Saturday games in Athens.

Spicing up gameday outfits comes with many different and easy options. You have matching sets, an assortment of dresses, bomber jackets, etc. One idea for games during cooler weather and creating an effortless look is wearing sweaters. A simple fall sweater in our school colors or a neutral color is a great option for the cooler weather coming up. Along with the layering options, there are a variety of ways to style them. When thinking about the multiple different clothing pieces and the price of them all, I think being able to use your basics to dress up is a substantial way to get around that.

With fall weather coming up on us slowly, sweaters and jackets are a perfect way to still dress up our gameday outfits while dressing appropriately for the weather. Personally, as well, I love the statement a jacket can bring to an outfit.

Moreover, I know we have all been in a position where someone invites us to an event we truly do not have much interest in going to. What if that scenario is a football game to you? Football and sporting events in general are not for everyone, but picking out a fun outfit is exactly what some people need to add some more delight to the idea.

Attending games with friends is fun in itself, and choosing an outfit adds to the excitement. If you are not interested in the event you are attending, why not add some excitement to it by picking an outfit that makes you feel most confident?

With all the ideas and variations for outfits for our football games, I think we should try to instill them into our sports culture here. The sweats and casual attire are great for everyday wear, but it is time we add some more creativity to our gameday outfits.
