Ohio hires Slade Larscheid as new athletic director

On Monday, Ohio University announced the hire of Slade Larscheid as athletic director. Larschceid will be entering his first head athletic director role of a Division I school with Ohio after it was announced on Sept. 8.

Exactly one month ago Aug. 8 it was announced former Ohio Athletic Director Julie Cromer would leave her role to join the staff at Louisiana State University as a deputy athletic director and chief operating officer.

Cromer had been with OU since 2019 as the athletic director, overseeing important hires of football head coaches such as Tim Albin and Brian Smith.

The departure of Cromer left a big hole for Ohio President Lori Stewart Gonzalez to fill, and with the appointment of Larscheid, the hole is filled as the university is formally introducing Larscheid to OU on Thursday, Sep. 11.

Larscheid has over 20 years of experience working for collegiate athletic departments since graduating from Northwestern University with a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in sports administration.

While at Northwestern, Larscheid played punter on the Wildcat football team, becoming a three-time letter winner.

Since 2020, Larscheid has served as the deputy athletic director at South Dakota State University, overseeing the operations of athletics.

While at SDSU, the football program grew into one of the best at the FCS level, winning two straight national championships in 2022 and 2023.

There is currently only one sport at Ohio without a permanent head coach in place in volleyball, with interim head coach Kenzie Brinkman leading the Bobcats this season.
