Scott Titsworth will step down as dean of Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication in June 2026 after 15 years in the role and return to teaching.
Originally from Parsons, Kansas, Titsworth received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in speech communication and rhetoric from Emporia State University in 1991, before receiving his master’s in communication and media studies from Missouri State University in 1993. In 1999, he received his Ph.D. in instructional communication from the University of Nebraska.
He joined OU in 2001 after teaching at Truman State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Titsworth has published over 50 books, chapters and articles on classroom communication effectiveness, for which he has developed an international reputation.
After stepping away from the dean role, Titsworth plans to return to his previous faculty role, which he held from 2001 to 2010. In 2009, Titsworth was awarded the highest teaching honor at OU and named a Presidential Teacher.
