Ohio traveled to Kettering, Ohio, for the Dayton Flyer Invitational, where the team finished seventh at +75.
The Bobcats finished the first round at +24 in fifth place. Leading the way was senior Mackenzie McRee at one under par. McRee had a solid front nine at two over with seven pars and two bogeys before dominating the back nine, shooting three under par with six pars and three straight birdies on holes 13-15.
Junior Morgan Rodgers followed at seven over par. She struggled on the front nine with a double bogey, four bogeys, three pars and a birdie, while on the back nine, finishing strong with five pars and three birdies, including one on the 11th hole.
Following one stroke behind Rodgers was junior Zoe Leubbers at eight over. Luebbers had a solid front nine, starting with a par and a birdie on holes one and two before struggling with two bogeys and a double bogey before finishing strong with four straight pars. She struggled on the back finishing five over par with three bogeys, a double bogey and five pars.
In fourth for the Bobcats at +10 was freshman Katie Husted with seven bogeys, two double bogeys, eight pars and a birdie. Three strokes behind was sophomore Ally Turner at +13, with three triple bogeys, nine bogeys, two birdies and four pars.
Rounding out the group came independents freshman Paige Treherne and senior Alaina Nugent. Nugent finished +10, with three double bogeys, five bogeys, nine pars and a birdie. In comparison, Treherne finished +9 with a solid front nine of two over with three bogeys, a birdie and five pars before struggling on the back, with two double bogeys and three bogeys.
In the second round, the Bobcats shed two strokes, finishing +22. Husted led the way at two over with an impressive back nine, shooting three under par with four birdies, four pars and a bogey. Four strokes back came Leubbers and McRee at six over.
McRee had a solid front nine, shooting two over with two birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey and four pars before finishing four over on the back with five bogeys, three pars and a birdie. In contrast to Leubbers, who struggled on the front nine but once she made the turn, she shot two over with eight pars and a double bogey on the 15th hole.
Rodgers followed at eight over with two birdies, four bogeys, a double bogey and two pars, while on the back she had three bogeys, a double bogey, four pars and a birdie. A stroke back came Turner at +9, followed by Treherme at +13 and rounding out the group was Nugent at +14, who picked up an eagle on the 11th hole.
The Bobcats struggled in the final round, scoring +29 to place seventh. Leubbers led the way with a great front nine, shooting one under with eight pars and a birdie on the eighth and keeping that momentum on the back with five pars, a birdie, two bogeys and a double bogey.
McRee followed at +7, after struggling on the front nine, turned it around in the final stretch, finishing one over with eight pars and a bogey on the 14th. Husted and Turner followed not too far behind at +10. Husted struggled on the front, with five bogeys before picking up momentum on the final nine with five straight pars to start the back before finishing with a double bogey and three straight bogeys.
Turner had a solid front nine, shooting two over with four bogeys, two birdies and three birdies before similar to Husted, starting strong with a birdie and two pars before picking up three double bogeys and bogeys. Rodgers followed at +15, while independents Nugent and Treherne both improved, shedding five strokes each with Nugent at +8 and Treherne at +9.
Overall, McRee led the way for the Bobcats, tying for 12th place at +12. Followed by Leubbers tied for 22nd at +16, where she tied for fifth on average score on par fours at +7 (4.21) and tied for second on pars with 36. Falling six strokes back, tied for 40th came Husted at +22, not too far behind, tied for 52nd was Rodgers +30, shortly followed by Treherne in 57th (+31) and rounding out the group came Turner and Nugent tied in 58th at +32. Nugent finished one of five players to finish with an eagle, while Turner tied for eighth with the most birdies with eight.
The Bobcats will look to bounce back as they travel to Nassau, Bahamas, for Northern Illinois’ White Sands Bahamas Invitational on Oct. 24-26.
