Ohio University announced Wednesday that head football coach Brian Smith has been relieved of his duties and his contract was terminated for cause following an administrative review.
Smith was initially placed on leave effective Dec. 1 for an unspecified period of time.
The university said the review found Smith violated the terms of his employment by engaging in serious professional misconduct and activities that reflected unfavorably on the institution.
Interim head coach John Hauser will continue to lead OU football at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels in the 2025 Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl on Dec. 23. The university has begun a search for a permanent replacement.
This is a developing story, and details of Smith’s termination may be updated as more information becomes available.
