Police blotter: aggressive dog, prank calls

Friday, Dec. 12

Off work early

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about suspicious activity on United Lane.

On the scene, deputies found the individual. The individual informed the deputies they worked for a company. The deputies then advised them to stop knocking on doors for the day.

Out of the way!

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies received a call regarding a parking complaint on Thompson Ridge in Athens.

Before arriving on the scene, dispatch successfully contacted the registered owner, who said she would move the vehicle.

Saturday, Dec. 13

Grand theft diesel?

A caller reported two people siphoning diesel fuel from a bulldozer at a construction site on Pleasanton Road. The individuals drove away before being identified.

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies searched the area but did not find either suspect.

Fight club

Upon receiving a call regarding an assault at state Route 278 in Nelsonville, Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated.

Deputies determined it was a fight between two men. A report was taken, and both men received a warning for disorderly conduct.

Sunday, Dec. 14

Not in the dog house

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Carr Road in Nelsonville regarding a report of animal neglect.

Upon arrival, deputies found two dogs without suitable care. A deputy dog warden also responded and tagged the residence for mandatory contact for the following day.

Before leaving, the dogs were given water, and deputies ensured they had adequate shelter in the cold weather.

Monday, Dec. 15

Investigators under investigation

Deputies responded to the Pleasanton Road area in Athens regarding two men and a woman knocking on doors.

Deputies determined they were detectives from Meigs County doing an investigation follow-up, and no further action was required.

No cuffs

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint in reference to neighbors having a camera pointed toward the complainant’s residence on Main Street in Jacksonville.

Upon arrival, deputies told the complainant this was not a criminal offense, and no further action was required.

Tuesday, Dec. 16

Not-so-happy meal

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to McDonald’s in The Plains regarding an aggressive dog in the parking lot.

Deputies found the dog and its owner, who proceeded to take the dog home.

TikTok trend?

Deputies responded to Broadwell Street in Stewart in reference to a verbal dispute. 

On the scene, the man and woman involved told deputies they were recording themselves saying hurtful things to each other.

Both individuals received a warning for disorderly conduct, and they agreed to separate for the rest of the night.

Wednesday, Dec. 17

Tractor turmoil

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to New Marshfield Road regarding a dispute over a tractor.

Upon arrival, the dispute was settled, and the tractor was returned.

Empty tank

Deputies responded to Salem Road near Lemaster Road regarding a verbal dispute.

On the scene, deputies located a disabled truck in the roadway. The man and woman inside the car informed deputies the vehicle had run out of gas. Deputies gave the woman a ride to the gas station.

When they returned, the truck was started, and the individuals left.

Thursday, Dec. 18

Bumper car

Athens County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a complaint of assault on Mush Run Road. It involved an individual using their vehicle to ram into another person's vehicle.

One individual was issued a summons for Criminal Damaging as a result of the incident.

Who’s this?

Deputies from the Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to Blair Road in reference to a threatening complaint.

Deputies later determined the calls were from two juveniles. They admitted the calls were pranks, and deputies advised them to stop calling.
