Baseball: What to know as Ohio’s road trip continues against Tennessee Tech

Ohio (1-2 overall) won the final game of its opening series against Murray State to bring the first program win to new head coach Andrew See and his staff, as it hopes to carry that momentum into a four-game weekend series against Tennessee Tech (1-3 overall). The Golden Eagles faced a tall task to start their 2026 season and were evidently swept by Texas A&M.

Ohio saw an offensive surge against the Racers, but some early-season struggles got the best of the pitching staff. The Bobcats started slow offensively as well, but the more swings they took, the more the ball seemed to fly for Ohio. The team scored 4 runs on Friday, before exploding for 23 runs in the games on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles are coming in off their first win of the year, beating Lipscomb 7-5 in their first midweek matchup. Tennessee Tech will come in with less rest than the Bobcats, and Ohio should look to take advantage of having fresh arms to get an edge in this series.

Looking at Tennessee Tech

The Golden Eagles did not find success in the win column through the first week of action but have played four competitive games. They have a team on-base percentage of .315 and are slugging .406. Tennessee Tech has 10 extra base hits to this point, including five home runs.

Texas A&M’s offense took advantage of the Tennessee Tech pitching staff, who have thrown 14 players to this point in the year. Their starters had a rough weekend dealing with the Aggies' bats, but the bullpen battled and kept the numbers down, something they can use to try and protect home field against Ohio this weekend.

Looking at Ohio

The Bobcats threw 13 arms against Murray State, but only three players threw more than three innings. This refurbished Ohio roster is still meshing as the season gets underway, and the unit had a tough first outing, allowing 37 runs against Murray State.

This group will lean on experience as they find a groove in the rotation, but the biggest factor will be the bullpen to log strong innings with four games to play this weekend.

Ohio won in the second game of its double-header against the Racers behind a 15-run performance. The Bobcats were led on offense by junior Cameron Boyd, who had seven hits on opening weekend, which included three doubles and two home runs to tally five RBIs and a .467 batting average.
