The rom-com classic from 2004, “13 Going on 30,” is getting a reboot by Netflix. It is set to star actress Emily Bader and actor Logan Lerman. The film is also set to be produced by Jennifer Garner, who played the original main character, Jenna Rink. There is currently no information on whether Mark Ruffalo will be involved in the making of the reboot.
Emily Bader is an up-and-coming actress, best known recently for "People We Meet on Vacation." The film came out this year on Netflix, and it is an on-screen adaptation of the popular book by Emily Henry. She also starred in the film "Fresh Kills" in 2024.
Logan Lerman has been acting for years. He is best known for his roles as Percy Jackson in the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series and Charlie in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” Recently, he starred in the film "Oh Hi!” in 2025.
“13 Going on 30” first premiered April 23, 2004, starring Garner and Ruffalo. The film centers around Rink, an unpopular girl in school whose best friend is a boy named Matty. She makes a wish at her 13th birthday party to be thirty, flirty and thriving by sprinkling magical dust on her dollhouse.
Her wish comes true, and she wakes up as a 30-year-old woman who is a magazine editor in New York. She rekindles her childhood friendship with Matty, after they had a falling out. At the same time, she learns maybe turning 30 isn’t all that she’d thought it would be.
In 2024, Revolution Studios and Netflix came up with the idea for a brand-new movie. Jennifer Garner was assumed to have some part in it because she is signed to a multi-deal contract with Netflix.
Garner and Ruffalo reunited to film the movie “The Adam Project” which came out in 2022. They played husband and wife in the movie. Garner said it was a beautiful experience to revisit that relationship.
On March 24, Netflix posted to X, announcing the reboot. This named the stars and Garner as the producer, as well as Brett Haley as the director, who also directed “People We Meet on Vacation.”
Fans have had mixed reactions to the news of the reboot all over social media.
A user on X wrote “we don’t need a reboot” in all caps and attached a GIF of a scene from the original film, with Rink’s famous quote, “you are rude and mean and sloppy and frizzy, I don’t like you at all.”
Another fan commented on a TikTok post and said, “not every movie needs a reboot, leave it alone.” While another user commented, “omg I had to check to make sure this wasn’t an April fools I’m so excited.”
An X user said, “I’d watch Emily Bader in anything tbh.”
The director, Haley, said he couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader.
Haley commented “(Bader) and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are an amazing pairing.” He continues with how incredibly lucky he is to be trusted with a project such as this.
“I'm such a big fan of romcoms,“ Bader said in a recent statement about “People We Meet on Vacation. "I think there's elements that I miss about some of the early 2000s, '90s romcom genre, and I felt like this had a little bit of that."
As of now, Netflix has released little information on the project. There is no set date for its release.
