Baseball: What to know for Ohio’s midweek matchup with Morehead State

Ohio is back in action Tuesday night for a makeup game against Morehead State that was postponed in March. Ohio is coming off a disastrous weekend, being swept by Mid-American Conference powerhouse Kent State.

The big story all weekend was the poor showing by the Bobcats bullpen. The unit surrendered 22 of Ohio’s 35 earned runs on the weekend. On top of this, the Bobcats gave up 7 unearned runs too, just piling on to a poor pitching performance.

Ohio could have battled this with some hitting, but answered Kent State’s 42 runs with only 8 of its own. Ohio hitters were dominated by the stout Kent State pitching, hitting only .188. Ohio struggled to produce runs this past weekend, but may be able to turn it around Tuesday against a Morehead State group that has an ERA of 8.97.

The Eagles have been able to fight all year behind a strong offense. They have five players with six or more home runs and seven men with 20 or more RBIs to help them score an average of just over 8 runs per game.

These two teams will come to play in Morehead, Kentucky, and fans in attendance should expect a high-scoring affair. The Eagles are looking to build on their four-game win streak, while the Bobcats look to rebound from a rough weekend at home.

Looking at Morehead State

The Eagles are a young group but have found success this year under second-year head coach Rose. Similar to Ohio, Morehead State started its season slowly but certainly found something as of late, winning five of its last seven games. This group has also been good about getting out front and staying there, winning each game in that stretch by at least three runs.

Morehead State also has history on its side in the matchup, having won seven of the last 10. Ohio looks to repeat its success from last year, having come to Allen Field and won 20-17.

Looking at Ohio

Ohio also has a young coach at the helm in first-year man Andrew See. See and his team have continued to improve, but a tough MAC schedule has made it hard to put all the pieces together when any momentum has surfaced. See has gotten good length out of his starters, but the Bobcats need to find a rhythm offensively to close out the 2026 season strong and build toward the future.
