Each week, the Sports editorial team selects its Top 25 FBS college football teams.
The Post Sports will break down its ballot each week. This week saw a lot of shuffling throughout the top 25, but only one change. Here is a breakdown of the top five and the top candidates to represent the Group of Six in this year's CFP.
Top 5
1. Georgia (2-0)
The SEC had a great weekend if your name was not Oklahoma, and the main beneficiary is my new number one, Georgia. The Bulldogs had a field day with Conference USA opponent Western Kentucky, as quarterback Gunner Stockton threw for 234 yards and five touchdowns, while only playing in the first half of the 70-20 blowout in Athens.
The Georgia defense also continues to shine again this year, forcing mistakes against lower-tier opponents. The Hilltoppers struggled mightily against the Georgia front, which forced two interceptions and collected a pair of sacks Saturday.
2. Indiana (2-0)
The Hoosiers stayed hot. They won 52-16 in week one and followed that up with a shutout of FCS opponent Howard, while putting up 55 points. Quarterback Josh Hoover saw limited snaps in the blowout but threw four touchdowns in the winning effort.
3. Texas (2-0)
Just like in 2025, the clash of two college football titans went to the home team, but that was not without adversity in Austin Saturday night. The Longhorns went down 20-3, and the home crowd was letting them know at the half. Quarterback Arch Manning and his receivers struggled early, with an interception by Manning and a fumble on the outside.
Texas fired back in the fourth quarter with 21 unanswered points. First, a touchdown pass from Manning to wideout Ryan Wingo and then two touchdowns on the ground by NC State transfer Hollywood Smothers to take the lead, but the story has to be the defense. The Longhorns only allowed 3 second-half points, forced three punts, a missed field goal, and picked off Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin in the final seconds to close the biggest win of the season to date.
4. Miami (FL) (2-0)
77 points was not even the highest produced by an FBS program in week 2, but Miami looked dominant in all 60 minutes against FCS opponent Florida A&M. Quarterback Darian Mensah is firmly in the Heisman race. He threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns while only having one incompletion on Thursday night.
The Hurricanes are right back in action Thursday night against Wake Forest, but after two strong weeks, the Demon Deacons may need a miracle to take down Mensah and superstar Malachi Toney.
5. Notre Dame (2-0)
All the Fighting Irish have to do to make the CFP in 2026 is finish the regular season in the top 12, and in two weeks, that seems very attainable for Marcus Freeman, CJ Carr and Notre Dame. They beat Rice by 50 this week, and it certainly looked like the Fighting Irish took their foot off the gas at the end of that one.
Notre Dame plays host to another undefeated program in week three, the Michigan State Spartans. The Spartans may be out of their element because they have had two low-impact weeks against Mid-American Conference opponents so far, and the Fighting Irish are a completely different beast.
Who I added: 19 Michigan
What a tale of two weeks in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines went down to the wire against Western Michigan in week one, a game that still stings the college football world, but Michigan still got the win. Michigan showed up fiery against an Oklahoma team that was booked to blow them out in many fans' eyes, but Kyle Whittingham’s group brought the intensity, especially on defense, and silenced the doubters for now with the 17-10 win over the Sooners.

Who I Dropped: Houston
The Cougars have been shaky to start 2026, but they were pushed out more due to Michigan’s success than their downfalls. The undefeated Cougars still seem poised to be back in the rankings throughout the season, but they will need to play complete games much better than they did in week one against Oregon State, specifically cleaning up the sloppy play of quarterback Conner Weigman.
Best of the Group of Six: 33 New Mexico, 36 Boise State, 39 South Florida, 52 San Diego State, 53 James Madison and 57 Western Michigan.
The top four continue to creep up my rankings, with New Mexico being on the door after two stellar weeks. The Broncos and Bulls got big wins against Memphis and Army, respectively.
San Diego State fell in week two against UCLA but played tough throughout the first half, holding the Bruins scoreless; the second half was a different story in the 28-10 defeat.
I normally do five Group of Six schools to highlight, but both James Madison and Western Michigan had excellent weeks and currently look like the favorites to come out of their conferences. The Dukes annihilated FCS opponent Wagner 87-3, proving that the rebuild may take less time than most people thought. The Broncos feel they should be 2-0 and took out their frustration on FCS Monmouth with a 49-14 win led by quarterback Broc Lowry.
