Concerts on the Green, a celebration of the arts, continues its series on College Green in the West Portico. This week, the Ohio University Jazz Faculty is performing.

Taco ‘Bout Habitat, a Habitat for Humanity Benefit Show, is hosted by Casa Nueva, located at 6 W. State St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can meet the Athens Habitat ambassadors and learn about their work in the city, listen to live music and choose from a special taco menu.

Wednesday, Sept. 9
The grand opening of the Maggie Davis Market Express in Baker University Center, 1 Park Place, includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Starting at 2 p.m., those in attendance can taste free samples from vendors, participate in activities and have the chance to win prizes like tickets to Cedar Point, a slushy machine or a bike.

Battle of the Greens, a showcase of live music, is held at the oval in front of the Living Learning Center starting at 7 p.m. Hosted by Housing and Residence Life, the event showcases local bands and friendly competition.

Thursday, Sept. 10
The Patton College of Education hosts a Uni-Tea social event, a nearly weekly gathering, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the third floor of Patton Hall, located at 100 E. Union St.

The Chaddock and Morrow College of Fine Arts, the College of Arts and Sciences and Concerts on the Green come together to host The Re-Declaration of Independence. The performance is at the West Portico on College Green at 6 p.m. to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration. The event opens the Central Region Humanities Center Biennial Conference.

Casa Nueva hosts the Emily Singer band as an early show. The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 11
“Amadeus” opens at Stuart’s Opera House, 52 Public Square, in Nelsonville, presented by the ABC Players. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
Admission: $8.50 for students, $12.50 for adults. There will be a $2.50 upcharge for ticket purchases at the door
The Center for Teaching, Learning and Assessment hosts Place-Based Teaching and Learning, an event to learn how people, places and resources can turn into teachable concepts. OU colleagues hold demonstrations illustrating how to connect teaching to the places around you. The event is in McGuffey Hall, 39 University Terrace, room 106, beginning at 1 p.m.

Casa Nueva hosts the Trans Takeover: Volume V, a dance party with special performances by Ultra Violet & the Spectrum, as well as Timberdoodle. Beginning at 10 p.m., all proceeds from the event support the Athens Trans Peer Support.

Saturday, Sept. 12
Big Blue Guitar Festival is hosted by Waldbaden Acres, 6303 Luhrig Rd. The festival showcases the sounds of homemade instruments and their creators. The festival is between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Admission: Free; $15-$20 fees for specific workshops
The 6th annual Skate Jam music festival is held at the Athens Skate Park, 701 E. State St., starting at 2 p.m. The bands set to perform include Collision Theory, Quickstep and Checkeye. All proceeds raised support improvements to the Athens Skate Park and the free music and arts opportunities provided by the Athens Artists Memorial Project.
Admission: Sliding admission of $10 to $20, children under 12 and volunteers are free
The 2026 Hocking River Sweep is a volunteer-led event that helps clean trash along the Hocking River. The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the Athens Community Center, located at 701 E. State St. Trash bags and cotton gloves are provided, and early registrants will receive an event T-shirt. Participants are invited to a picnic-style lunch after the cleanup.

Casa Nueva hosts an Art Show Reception featuring Joe Ryckenboch, with music provided by OYO. The event is in an art gallery format, starting at 4 p.m.

The College of Arts and Sciences hosts Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, a Stories in the Park Exhibition at Richland Avenue Park, located at 8493 Dairy Lane, as part of the Central Region Humanities Center Biennial Conference. The event celebrates the United States of America’s 250th birthday.
