Student-Athlete of the Week: Nick Rostek, hockey

Rostek took home the MVP award of the Central States Collegiate Hockey League Tournament, which the Bobcats won. Rostek scored three goals in the three-game tournament. He scored both of Ohio’s goals — both of which came on the power play — in Ohio’s 2-1 semifinal win against Iowa State that got them to the championship game.

The Bobcats enter the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Tournament next week as the No. 3 seed.

Honorable Mention: Emily Wethington, softball

Wethington starred for the Bobcats en route to their second-place finish at the Buccaneer Invite in Charleston, S.C. She opened the tournament with a complete game five-hitter in a 2-1 win against Virginia Tech. She allowed only one run and struck out 10. Later in the day, Wethington struck out six in four scoreless innings of a 2-0 win against Mercer.

DeVaughn Washington, men’s basketball

Ohio’s senior power forward scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Ohio’s 77-74 BracketBuster win against Winthrop Saturday. For 15 minutes in the second half, Washington and Tommy Freeman were the only Bobcats to score.

Washington also had 12 points in Ohio’s 76-69 win at Buffalo no Tuesday. In Mid-American Conference play, Washington is averaging 13.5 points and shooting 62 percent.
