With one 3-pointer tonight, Tommy Freeman will stand all alone at the top of Ohio’s record books.

Freeman’s seven 3s against Winthrop Saturday gave him 239 for his career — tying him with Dave Jamerson for first on Ohio’s all-time list for career 3-pointers.

“It’s going to be a good thing to be remembered for,” Freeman said. “I’ve had a great group of guys that helped me get here.”

Coach John Groce called Freeman’s body of work “extraordinary.” Freeman has shot at least 40 percent from 3-point range for three consecutive seasons. Groce credited Freeman’s work ethic and desire to get better every day.

Freeman said he’s happy to have a chance to break the record at home, especially as a thank you to the fans.

“It means a lot as far as fans, given the support I’ve had in my four years,” Freeman said. “This is a way of me paying them back for the support they’ve given me.”

One year ago tomorrow, Freeman hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to beat Miami 70-68 at The Convo. Freeman has taken and made a ton of big 3s at The Convo, and if one goes in tonight, he said it would be one of his top moments.

“It will probably be up there with the Miami shot,” Freeman said with a smile.
