I’m not going to lie – I was really excited to cover the game this weekend. I was excited to see what the Bobcats had up their sleeves for Akron. I was excited to see Tenishia Benson and Rachel Tecca square off after they played in high school together. I was excited because I had played on the same CYO team as Tecca in 6th grade, and yes ladies and gentlemen, I was taller than her back then.

I’m not going to lie again – the game was an interesting one. The Bobcats really played hard. I was a little disappointed though when Tecca got into foul trouble within the first five minutes of the game and sat out the rest of the first half. I wish I she would’ve played more. But’s what even more disappointing is the fact that Ohio could have really capitalized on her absence more than they did.

Kamille Buckner agrees the Bobcats could’ve done more to score with Tecca absent.

“She is their main scorer, and she got two fouls early,” she said. But Ohio instead trailed by 12 going into the locker room at the half.

Tecca came out even stronger after the first half. She scored 11 points the rest of the game, close to her 16.9 point average she currently boasts with a 51.6 percent field goal percentage.

“It’s like any player in this league. You give her a little bit of confidence, and you can’t think that they are not going to regroup and not come back, and she was able to,” said coach Semeka Brown. “She didn’t have the numbers that she normally used to because of the foul trouble, but I mean, she is a player, so she was going to get her shots here and there.”

Tecca has had double figures in scoring in every game but two this year and ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage. She also recently became the first Akron player to be the Capital One Academic All-District Team.
