Ohio freshman shortstop Garrett Black was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Monday by the league.

In four games against Bowling Green and Cleveland State last week, Black batted .500, drove in five RBIs and hit his first home run of the season. During the week, Black led the team in all three triple crown categories.

Black's 10th inning home run on Saturday drove in two runs and proved to be the game winner in Ohio's 7-5 win over the Falcons.

On the season, Black leads the team with a .329 batting average and a .402 on-base percentage.

Coach Joe Carbone said Black has been improving his fundamentals and pitch reading and it has shown at the plate.
