Ohio University filled a void in its media relations department despite the school's hiring freeze.
Andy Alongi was hired this week to replace Darrin Bates, who left the university earlier this year. Alongi will be the media relations contact for soccer, men's and women's golf (fall seasons), women's basketball, swimming & diving, softball.
Alongi's salary was not available in time for publication. Bates made $29,000 per year.
The university most likely acquired a waiver from President Roderick McDavis to hire Alongi during the hiring freeze. The same instance occurred when the university hired assistant football coach Ron Collins last month
