Former Ohio University professor and baseball historian Charles Alexander was a recent recipient of the Society for American Baseball Research's Henry Chadwick Award.
According to SABR's website, the Chadwick award "honors the game’s great researchers—historians, statisticians, annalists, and archivists—for their invaluable contributions to making baseball the game that links America’s present with its past."
Aside from his time as the History of Baseball professor at Ohio, Dr. Alexander has authored several baseball books including biographies of Hall-Of-Famers Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, John McGraw and Tris Speaker.
The award is named after early baseball writer Henry Chadwick, who is credited with devising the first baseball box score. Chadwick had a major influence on early sports journalism in the United States.
Dr. Alexander taught at Ohio for more than 15 years and was one of five 2011 Chadwick recipients.
