The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service and leadership.
Annie Beecham more than meets the criteria listed for the award.
Beecham demonstrates community leadership by being an active member of the Big Brother's Big Sister's of Athens Country. She has also volunteered for numerous other organizations in the Athens, Ohio area.
During the 2010-11 school year Beecham was the publisher of Backdrop Magazine, a student run magazine on the Ohio University campus. She previously served as editor-in-chief and associate editor of the magazine.
As for Beecham's athletic prowess, the list goes on and on. She finished 13th this past fall at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Great Lakes Regional after placing fourth at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship. She also qualified for the Division I NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regionals in the 10,000 meter run and 5,000 meter run.
Beecham also owns the school and conference record in the 10,000 meter run.
The 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced during the Woman of the Year dinner in Indianapolis on Sunday, October 16.
