With just a few weeks worth of reps at wide receiver under his belt, Phil Bates said he is having no trouble adjusting to his new position.
Working primarily with receivers coach Dwayne Dixon, Bates is looking to get in as many reps at the position as possible after being sidelined much of the offseason due to injury.
"I think he’s understanding what is expected from him and what his role is going to be. He’s going to have to help us in a lot of different areas," Dixon said.
Bates got a limited number of reps in Saturday's win against New Mexico State, but Dixon said he could see more action as the season goes on.
"As we go he will get more opportunities. We’ll find ways to make that happen," Dixon said.
For now, Bates is just focusing on getting better one practice at a time.
"That’s the plan. Just getting better everyday in practice and try to make things happen. I want to get better every game."
