90-minute games
The Morehead State Eagles saw a majority of the possession in the first half; however, the second half quickly turned as the Bobcats upped the tempo of the game and produced a wonder strike from Katie Kemen.
After Kemen's goal, Ohio picked up the pace and applied pressure until the final 10 minutes when the Bobcats seemed to lose steam. With three minutes left, Morehead State scored the winner from a header on the back post.
The Bobcats saw bright spots throughout the game, but it is the consistency during the 90 minutes that Mattie Liston believes is the difference between their wins and losses.
Fullbacks control the flanks, again
Fullbacks Paige Howard and Lauren Burke showed tremendous poise on the ball and provided good service from the wings.
With much of the midfield tucking in, the fullbacks are able to push forward and even saw Paige Howard nearly score from outside the box.
The outsidebacks' recovery speed was the difference maker because they were both able to control the outside midfielders and push them into the center.
Though Morehead State scored two goals both off crosses to defeat the Bobcats, the defense was solid on the day in hold-up play but gave up too many balls in the air.
Final third difficulties
The final pass lacked from the Bobcats today, and though the build up in offense was impressive at times, the final third of the field was where Ohio couldn't put it together.
Kemen's impressive goal into the top corner was what the Bobcats are capable of, but the play inside the box couldn't find the back of the net. With conference play ahead in a few weeks, Ohio is confident that the difficult non-conference games will benefit them when they face Eastern Michigan.
Ohio State is up next, as Ohio travels to Columbus Sunday. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.
