Going into Saturday's game against New Mexico State, Ohio had not returned a punt for a touchdown in 19 games. Travis Carrie ended the dry streak.

Carrie returned a punt 65 yards for a score late in the third quarter to pad the Bobcats' lead. The feat led to his being named the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week.

Carrie gained six yards on his only other punt return. He also played defensively at cornerback in Ohio's 44-24 victory.

Punter Pal Hershey also made noise on special teams. He recorded an 80-yard punt in the fourth quarter to set a new school record. Dave Zastudil's 75-yard boot against Akron in 1998 was the previous mark. Hershey's personal best was 72 yards.
