Ohio heads into its home opener Saturday night with its starting goaltender situation still in limbo.

Freshman Brendan Madden and sophomore Fedor “Teddy” Duskin are the two goaltenders listed on the Bobcat’s Division 1 roster, but neither has separated himself after two weeks of practice head coach Dan Morris said.

“Goalie is going to be a big question mark,” he said. “You kind of look for a returning guy to step up. Neither one of them is setting themselves apart right now.”

Morris said he didn’t know which of the two would get the nod to start between the posts Saturday, and that he would also be bringing some of the goalies in from the Division II squad to look over.

Goaltending has been a major strength for Ohio in recent seasons, with Paul Marshall —the 2010 ACHA Player of the Year — and Blake MacNicol forming the backbone of back-to-back national semifinalists. Coupled with the loss of three defenseman from last year's team, the back end could be a major worry for Ohio in the early part of season.

The Bobcats open up that ledger Saturday night against the West Virginia Mountaineers, a team they’ve beaten six of the last seven times the two have squared off. Opening faceoff at Bird Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
